PENGEMBANGAN MODAL SOSIAL BERBASIS PENTAHELIX UNTUK PENGUATAN PENGELOLAAN SAMPAH BERBASIS MASYARAKAT

Waste management is a significant challenge in large cities in Indonesia, including Semarang, which faces waste production of around 1,000 tons per day. This research explores the development of pentahelix-based social capital as a strategic approach to strengthen community-based waste management in Semarang. The pentahelix approach, which involves five main elements—government, academics, business, society and media—is considered capable of creating synergy in overcoming complex challenges in waste management. This study highlights the importance of active community participation, as well as the role of strong social capital, such as trust and social networks, in driving successful waste management.
This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach based on postpositivism philosophy to understand the development of pentahelix-based social capital in community-based waste management. This research method utilizes secondary data from various online sources, including government websites, international organizations, and social media. The results of this research indicate that the application of pentahelix can produce more effective and sustainable solutions, as well as support the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) related to the environment in Semarang. Through cross-sector collaboration, it is hoped that an ecosystem will be created that is able to address the waste problem holistically, empower communities, and create added value for the environment and local economy.
